37D mm metal gearmotors with encoders and end caps

Our 37D mm metal gearmotors now have fitted plastic end caps over their encoders that neatly protect the assembly and keep stray objects clear of the magnetic disc. The pictures below show the previous version (without end cap) next to one of the new ones:

The end cap is easily removable if you need to access the encoder or want a few more millimeters of clearance for your gearmotor, but there is a little bit of base plastic that will remain (as shown in the picture below), so removing the end cap does not quite make these new ones identical to the previous versions.

These gearmotors are available in six different gear ratios and with or without encoders, and we also carry the motor and encoder assembly by itself with no gearbox. The following table shows all of our 37D mm metal gearmotor options:

Hi. Are you planning to sell the caps separately? I bought 4 30:1 Metal Gearmotors (37D) in July and would love to buy the caps. Thanks.
Hello.

Unfortunately, the end caps only work with these new versions of our 37D mm metal gearmotors, which come with a special, pre-installed black plastic ring at the base of the motor that the end cap mounts to. There is no way to use these end caps with the older versions of our 37D mm metal gearmotors with encoders.

Hey

Do you have any information for the 37Dx52 1:19 on the Coulomb friction or the stiction force needed to start the motor and gearbox?

- Daniel.
Hello.

Unfortunately, we do not have that information.

How is the output shaft of the gearbox supported? Sleeve bearing or ball bearings? If two of these motors support a robot with no other help how much could the robot weigh?
Hello, Jason.

The shaft is supported by a bushing (sleeve bearing). We do not have any specific radial load ratings for these, and in general, more radial load will lead to shorter life. We do not recommend more than a few pounds of radial load on the output shaft.

Hi,

How can I connect this encoder to arduino uno and connect motor to a motor controller, is there any guide?

Thanks.
Hello, Tao.

The product pages for those 37D gearmotors with encoders have a chart in the "Using the encoder" section that details the function of each wire by color. If you need more assistance or have technical questions you should contact us via email at support@pololu.com or post a request for help on our forum.
