This compact, inexpensive, low-current gearmotor (gearbox with motor) offers high rotation speed and decent torque, making it well-suited for use in small robots. At 4.5 V, it has a free-run speed of 120 RPM and a stall torque of approximately 20 oz-in.

Pololu mini plastic gearmotor offset output with opened gearbox.

This 120:1 gearmotor is a very compact 1.44" x 0.79" x 1.08" (36.5 x 20 x 27.4 mm), and weighs only 0.7 ounces (19 grams) — perfect for building a quick, miniature robot. The recommended operating voltage range for this motor is 3 – 6 V, though the gearmotor starts rotation as low as 0.6 V.

At 4.5 V, the gearbox and motor provide approximately 20 oz-in of torque and 120 RPM. The free-running current is 80 mA, and the stall current is 800 mA. The low-current motor makes this a great match for our qik 2s9v1 dual serial motor controller. The stall current, torque, and rotation speed will approximately scale linearly with the motor voltage. The gearbox is protected by a built-in safety clutch that will typically slip before gear teeth can sheer.

This gearmotor comes pre-assembled, with the gears fully enclosed. The gearbox is protected by a built-in safety clutch that will typically slip before gear teeth can sheer. The unit has one mounting hole, and the chrome-finish output shaft is splined with a 0.08" (2 mm)-crest diameter.

A custom plastic wheel is available for this gearmotor, as well as a LEGO wheel adapter that allows it to be used with a variety of LEGO wheels.
