This 224:1 gearmotor (gearbox with motor) has a low-current motor and provides power and speed that is comparable to an RC servo at a fraction of the cost.
This 224:1 gearmotor (gearbox with motor) is a great low-cost alternative to modified hobby servos or Tamiya gearboxes. The low-current motor is a perfect match for our qik 2s9v1 dual serial motor controller, and the compact size of 2.78" x 1.06" x 0.91" (70.5 x 27 x 23 mm) makes this unit an attractive choice for small robot designs. At 5 V, the gearbox and motor provide 50 oz-in of torque and 38 RPM, which is slightly slower than a servo. The free-running current is 52 mA, and the stall current is 600 mA. A built-in safety clutch engages at approximately 60 oz-in. This gearmotor comes pre-assembled, with the gears fully enclosed. There are built-in mounting holes, and the output shaft is 7mm in diameter with two sides flattened. A custom-molded GMPW plastic wheel for this gearmotor is available. For a similar, less expensive version of this gearmotor, see the Pololu 200:1 plastic gearmotor 90-degree output. For a version of this gearmotor with the output shaft parallel to the motor shaft, see the GM2 gearmotor. For a similar but smaller 120:1 gearmotor, see the GM7 gearmotor. For a faster version, see the GM9 gearmotor. To increase the power of this gearbox, you can replace the motor with a higher-power RM2 motor. For a replacement motor, see the RM3 motor. Note: This gearmotor does not come with mounting hardware, instructions, or packaging. A mounting bracket is not required but can be purchased separately for more versatile installation.
