Overview

The Arduino Inventor’s Kit (AIK) from SparkFun Electronics and Oomlout is a box of goodies to get the very beginner started with programmable electronics. It includes everything you need to build 14 basic circuits, and no soldering is required! An included 40-page booklet guides you through the construction of each project, and each project has a breadboard-overlay card that shows you exactly where each circuit component goes on your breadboard. The guide will show a complete novice how to use the included Arduino Uno to:

  • Blink LEDs
  • Control a toy motor
  • Control a servo
  • Make (bad) music
  • Respond to buttons
  • Read a volume knob
  • Detect ambient light
  • Measure temperature
  • Control large loads with a relay
  • Mix LED colors
  • Read a flex sensor
  • Read a softpot

These tasks are fundamental building blocks of typical electronics projects. Once these concepts are mastered, you can use simple recombinations to achieve some very impressive projects.

For those already somewhat comfortable with electronics, we also offer the SparkFun Starter Kit for RedBoard, which includes an Arduino-compatible RedBoard and a multitude of sensors and indicators to get you started in the wonderful world of embedded electronics and is a great gift for beginners and weathered professionals alike.

The Arduino Uno included with this kit could be either the DIP edition or SMD edition. The two versions are functionally identical, differing only in the AVR package.
