When assembled, the Moon Walker II uses a phototransistor to sense changes in light (such as turning on a lamp) and a condenser microphone to sense changes in sound (such as clapping). It converts those stimuli into electronic signals to power a motor, and walks forward for a preset time. The sensors can be adjusted for different sensitivity levels.

This robot kit is rated as at the intermediate level and recommended for builders age 14 and up. Only basic hand tools are needed for assembly: diagonal cutter, small hammer, screwdriver (phillips and flat-head), and long nose plier.
Basic specifications:
- Size: Height 130 x Diameter 100 mm (5.12" x 3.94").
- Movement: 2 legs on each side driven by a crank shaft.
- Control: Sound sensor including condenser microphone/transistor; Light sensor/photo-transistor.
